A decubitus ulcer or pressure sore is a lesion caused by unrelieved pressure resulting in damage of the underlying tissue.  They usually develop over a bony prominence and are classified by the degree of tissue damage.

The unrelieved pressure, along with numerous contributing factors, leads to the skin breakdown and persistent ulcerations.
